How to sell domains and websites

There are several sites where you can buy and sell domains but the most prominent is SEDO, in my opinion. It is free to register for both buyers and sellers and the site is highly popular and offer more than 11.5 million domain names right now.

Most websites that offer services like this charge 10% of the sales price as admin fee for using their site to do business, so you are only charged if we successfully find a buyer for your domain.

 Websites with raised value

When you have gotten as far as raising the domain value it is time to put it up for sale. First you have to decide what broker/domain trade site to use and if you want to use more than one make sure you check that this is not against the broker's rules.

Timing – you have to remember that timing is the key to any good sale. Sell too early and you might end up with little to no demand; sell too late and you might end up with a market fully saturated by competition. Timing is crucial to make sure that your site will be in demand.A lot of people believe that the best time to sell would be when your site has established a reputation. You need to show buyers that the site actually has huge potential. This will increase its value and help you with the negotiations.

Traffic – this refers to the amount of people that visit your site. Having more traffic means that your site has more profit potential and this equals an increase in value.

Ranking – page ranking isn’t as reliable as it used to be in online marketing, but some people still use it as a gauge for the profitability or potential of a site. The ranking of web sites can be observed pretty easily and can be a great way of looking how easily new users can find your site.

Profits – potential can be observed in just how quickly the amount of the site’s profit is rising. Of course, there are only a few occasions when this situation causes a web owner to sell, and one of those occasions usually involves a person not having enough resources to support the increasing business. Selling could prove more profitable than continued operation.

Once you have a valuable site, who are you going to sell it to and how are you going to sell it?

  1. Feel the market – This will help you anticipate just how much you will have to promote a site to attract buyers. The logical way to learn how the market is going to behave would be to research the market. Go to discussion forums, chats, read articles etc. Find ot what people want and how to get it. While doing your research do not over ormpte in forums and chats, people tend to spot desperate promoting instantly and that can ruin your project.
  2. Do not spam – spamming gets you negative publicity and it is illegal. Spamming on sites will likely get you banned and you will be unable to contact people on that particular site.
  3. Establish a reputation – test out the site for a while before you put it up for sale. This way you can present stats and fact about traffic och profits from the site and build up a good reputation. This actually increases its value as more established sites tend to increase in ranking and have more traffic. A proven profitable site will make people more eager to buy.

If the site becomes really profitable you might wanna keep it though..
